Digital Literacy for Educators

In my continuing quest for improvement of my professional practice I have been undertaking quite a lot of self-motivated (and self-funded) professional development.

One of these things is the Digital Literacy for Educators course, a program funded through the Australian Government quality teacher initiative and delivered by ASLA NSW.

Its aim is noble -

"To develop a range of skills for teachers using digital resources and related technologies to enhance the learning outcomes of students".

It is a 20-hour course, most of which is online. However, today we had the face-to-face component delivered to us by June Wall, Executive Librarian at St Ignatius College. We got to have a hands on exploration of several digital tools such as Audible, Delicious, Photostory and Voicethread. I personally enjoyed playing with Delicious and utilising the tags and grouping of bookmarks. If you're interested, you can go check out My Delicious here.

Next up is the online module component of the course, where we logon and can go through the different modules at our own pace. This aspect of it will be quite challenging, as it is finding time to do these things that is the problem! I will keep you updated...
